Personality
The Son is shown to be ambitious and multi-talented, restoring much of the Russian mafia's influence in Miami in just a month. He ultimately worries, however, that his lavish lifestyle and huge amount of notoriety will cause him to meet the same fate as his family in the original game. He's also off put by how easily his men are killed, with the corpse of one surrounded by money in the vault in Blood Money triggering a vision of his dead family. He has a friendship with The Henchman, which he tries to rekindle once things have settled down on December 20th. He detests boring lifestyles, and, after failing to contact the Henchman, takes an unprecedented amount of the new product. The events of Take Over strongly imply he has a death wish, as the plan involves him single-handedly fighting 80 armed gangsters before walking unarmed into a firing squad in the main office, and he outright states that he isn't "Afraid of dying" in The Table Sequence.
Kel is very competitive by nature and loves to show off, as well as arguing with his friends, especially Aubrey, who he constantly bickers with. Despite this, he deeply cares for his friends and repeatedly demonstrates undying loyalty towards them. He is shown to have an extremely strong sense of justice both in Headspace and in reality, jumping at the chance to confront Sweetheart and chase her throughout Deeper Well and Humphrey, and outright fighting Aubrey and the Hooligans multiple times in reality in an attempt to get Basil's Photo Album back, and later to stop them from bullying him.

In the real world, he is slightly more reserved than his Headspace self, although still extremely outspoken and outright impulsive. He admits to having distanced himself from his friends while they were grieving Mari's death out of a fear of misunderstanding and making things worse.<ref>Kel: At that time, I didn't really understand what was happening... "How do you think? They invited me."
Towards the end of the game, if Sunny examines him as he sleeps at Basil's house, he will describe him as "a bit careless at times," but with "a good heart," and as someone who "just wants everyone around him to be happy."

His most noticeable physical features are the large scar down the left side of his face, and the golden hammer & sickle earring in his left ear. The source of the scar is never addressed.

His original hideout features Russian military crates (the same seen in the Hawaiian occupation levels and Richter's "Demolition" level), glass cases of expensive swords and guns, and what appears to be a shark tank. He's shown to be very generous when distributing payment money to the Henchman, but not a remotely equal amount, the difference highlighted by the extravagance shown in their cars.

Profile

Appearance

In Headspace, Kel wears a colorful tank top covered in multicolored squares. Like the other Headspace party members, he does not wear socks or shoes and his hair and eyes are purple.

In the real world, Kel appears to be older and taller than his younger Headspace counterpart. He has brown hair and olive skin. He also wears an orange basketball shirt with white lines.

Personality

He admits to having distanced himself from his friends while they were grieving Mari's death out of a fear of misunderstanding and making things worse.[1] This fear appears to have stimmed from an incident that occurred a year or so after Mari's death, where his attempt to rouse Hero from his depressive state instead resulted in the latter screaming at him, taking out his grief and anger and reducing both of them to tears.[2]

Towards the end of the game, if Sunny examines him as he sleeps at Basil's house, he will describe him as "a bit careless at times," but with "a good heart," and as someone who "just wants everyone around him to be happy."

Trivia

 • It's entirely possible that Kel's name was going to be different during production, as evidenced by an old development gif[3] where his name is Kelsey.
 • In the real world, Kel is the only character capable of legitimately feeling Happy, Sad, and Angry.
 • He will become Happy if he is given Orange Joe in battle.
 • Several enemies, such as Kim, are capable of making him Sad.
 • He will be locked to Angry throughout the entire battle against Aubrey at the Church, and will not change emotion even if fed Orange Joe.
