143 is a mysterious number scattered across OMORI. It appears in various places, such as: Black Space, and in the Something (enemy) fight.
Appearances
This sub header lists the various moments where the number "143" can be seen in-game.

| Something in the Dark | If Sunny fails to use Calm Down after learning it, then Something in the Dark will attack Sunny on the tenth turn for 143  of damage, instantly killing him.[1]

| Something (enemy) | After Something is revealed to be a hanging Mari, Something will begin dealing 143 of damage every turn.

| Overcome | There are two versions of the Overcome skill. The normal one obtained in the Something fight does exactly 143 of damage, although this cannot be seen under normal circumstances; The battle will end after Sunny opens his eyes. The unused variant that "does big damage to an enemy" also deals exactly 143 of damage.

| Wolf | Wolf is a character located in Last Resort. If you tag Hero and interact with this NPC he will explain how Hero saved his marriage. Then, he will give Hero exactly 143 clams. |
| Backyard Area | After Something begins following Omori, collect the key and wait. After 143 seconds, he will be able to jump off the right ledge into the Water Walkway. |
| Doombox | If a Doombox is defeated while it is Neutral, Omori's party will gain exactly 143 EXP. Notably, Doomboxes will instead give 142 EXP if defeated while Happy, making it the only enemy in the game that rewards a different amount of EXP when Happy compared to Neutral. |
Theories
There are multiple theories as to what 143 means.
I love you
- In the phrase "I love you", "I" has 1 character, "love" has 4 characters, and "you" has 3 characters.
- The Minots Ledge Light's light flashes in a 1-4-3 pattern, and was nicknamed "I Love You", hinting towards a potential origin.
- In the Backyard Area, where Omori must wait 143 seconds to proceed to the Water Walkway, Something will say "Sunny... I love you..." every ten seconds.
- In the Last Resort, Wolf will mention his marriage before offering the team 143 clams, a further tie-in to it's meaning in relation to love.
