Omori (enemy)
This article is about Omori as an enemy character. For the playable character, see Omori.
Omori serves as the final boss in Omori for the Sunny Route, in which Sunny finally decides to face his guilt over Mari's death and move on from the past.
Story
During the Final Night, after fighting Basil and Sunny playing his violin on a concert stage, presumably in Headspace, he breaks down crying and wakes up in White Space as himself. Upon exploring White Space further, Omori can be seen slightly below the location of the black lightbulb was before it was broken. Besides Omori, the line leading up to the ceiling from the lightbulb, and the rectangle, White Space appears to be completely empty. Upon Sunny confronting Omori, the battle begins, with the stakes presumably being Sunny's mind.
The battle consists of six phases, with progressively increasing difficulty, and the background changing to increasingly disturbing images as well as music and sounds. The player only needs to reach the fourth phase in order to progress. If the player dies past this point, there are two possible endings, depending on what they choose:
- Good Ending: If the player chooses to continue, Sunny stands back up, and begins to play a duet with Mari, giving the player a cutscene showing parts of Sunny'schildhood. After this, another cutscene plays. wherein Omori hugs Sunny and drops his knife, before disappearing. After this, the player wakes up in a hospital, and meets all his friends in Basil's own hospital room and presumably confesses about Mari's death.
- Bad Ending: If the player chooses not to continue, the cutscene in which Omori hugs Sunny plays, except that this time Sunny drops his violin and disappears instead of Omori. This results in Omori waking up in White Space again. When they enter the Neighbour's Room, all of his friends are unusually quiet and simply run up to him. When they exit the room, Sunny appears on what appears to be the Hospital's roof, alone, with his eye bandaged. Following this, he jumps off the building, and the credits play.
Battle
Omori serves as the final boss of the Sunny Route, serving as the final obstacle Sunny must face to be willing to face the truth regarding Mari's death and face his friends. His attacks can constantly deal heavy damage to Sunny, so the skills Calm Down and Cherish must be used often to restore and and increase stats throughout the fight, while Encore and Allegro are used to fight back. In terms of stats, Omori have 80 heart, 4 attack, 2 defense, 6 speed and 10 luck.
During the fight, Sunny will generally have to heal very often as Omori's attacks can very quickly defeat Sunny if ignored. The player should take advantage of the times when Omori uses his weaker attacks in order to counterattack. Using this strategy, Omori should eventually be brought down successfully. Each time Omori's health is depleted, the message "Omori did not succumb" appears, and Omori moves onto the next phase. In later stages, the message changes to "Omori will not succumb". With each successive stage, Omori's stats will increase and he will use stronger versions of his original attacks, especially his erasing attack.
The erase attack will be the greatest threat faced by the player in this battle. It starts appearing on the second phase, and starts as a regular, if very damaging attack, but gains additional effects as the player progresses through the phases. Starting from the fifth phase, the erase attack will inflict the Afraid status on Sunny. This can be removed using the Calm Down skill, but Calm Down only works a certain amount of times. This amount is reset when the player uses Cherish, but Cherish is also limited- only being usable five times.
If the player reaches the final phase, the fight will be revealed to be completely impossible to win, as Omori will use his erase attack every single round, giving the player no opportunity to recover and counterattack. In addition, the erase attack will also reduce Sunny's defence at this phase. If the player chooses to continue once they reach Game Over at any point past the fourth stage, the Good Ending will play. If they choose continue after being defeated before the fourth stage, the fight will restart from the beginning. If the player chooses to not continue after being defeated at any point, the Bad Ending will begin.
