WHITE SPACE is the 96th track in the official soundtrack of OMORI. It plays on the True Route while Omori is in White Space during the chapter Three Days Left.
Musical description
WHITE SPACE is a version of the original White Space theme that is played haltingly on piano. It has same 8-bar structure, but the music is simpler, with the left hand playing block chords instead of arpeggios.
Analysis
It uses the same chords as the original, IV and I, but the tonic chord is in first inversion. This means there is less of a sense of resolution as the IV chord moves to the I, which adds to the sense of instability. It also means there is little bass movement in the track, which contributes to the peaceful sound of the piece. The uneven tempo makes the track sound like a piano piece being practised repeatedly, and it is also noteworthy that this piece only plays on the True Route, where Sunny decides to confront the truth, and the piano is the instrument associated with Mari. The slower tempo, chord inversions, and the sparser texture makes it sound more melancholic than the original.
Motif
WHITE SPACE is a piano version of WHITE SPACE (track 2). The White Space motif also appears in the following tracks:
- 11 - It's Okay To Try Again... - the first two bars follow a similar shape to the motif
- 16 - A Place By A Lake - a shortened version of the White Space motif is heard around halfway through the track
- 122 - WHITE SPACE - the second piano version of this track
- 131 - Welcome Again. - an off-key version of the motif played monophonically
- 170 - Try Again Little Brother - the first two bars are identical to the White Space motif
