Playing Forever is the 154th track in the official soundtrack of OMORI. It plays on the Neutral Route in Neighbor's Bedroom. It also plays in Sunny's house after he completes his chores on One Day Left.

Analysis

Playing Forever is a waltz played on music box, which is an instrument associated both with childhood innocence and with horror movies. It is also a relatively superficial instrument, being mostly created as decoration or toy and only able to play simple, predetermined music. It can only play it in the same way every time, making its music feel more inorganic than other instruments. Through this, the music box captures the one-dimensional nature of Headspace, and how artificial everything in it is, which Sunny has chosen to fully embrace at this point in the story.

The chord progression features many non-diatonic chords, which often clash with the main melody, creating very dissonant intervals of a minor 9th (an augmented minor 2nd) and a major 7th (the inversion of the minor 2nd), leading to a feeling of uneasiness. However, the C chord is repeated often, except for a short section where Eb is tonicised. The bright, cheery sound of the music box and the sweet, simple melody juxtaposes with the dissonant sound of the "wrong" notes.

Towards the end of the track, the Main Motif is heard. This is the only time it appears on the Neutral Route other than on the title screen.
