The Truth is the 176th track in the official soundtrack of OMORI. It plays in the cutscene during the good ending where Sunny enters Basil's hospital room, and prepares to confess the truth to his friends.
Musical description
The track consists of a seven note phrase played on piano with reverb. The melody begins with the Main Motif, but diverges from it when it plays a D instead of the non-diatonic C#, and ends unresolved on a G. The melody is overall high, with a range from G5 to A6. It is played with a lot of rubato. A single chord is played, a C major chord in second inversion.
Motifs
The Truth uses the Main Motif, which is first heard in Title. It is also heard in full in the following tracks:
- 153 - Do You Remember? - the track is similar to Title, but features arpeggios played by the left hand
- 167 - Remembrance - the motif is played on solo violin
- 172 - DUET - the motif is heard in its most expanded form, as a waltz played by piano and violin
Analysis
Unlike other iterations of the Main Motif, The Truth features no chromaticism, instead changing a note to be in key of C major. The lack of the tension in the melody that the player has come to expect creates a sense of peacefulness and being at rest. Ending the melody on the dominant leads to a feeling of anticipation, which is not resolved. This mirrors how the player only sees the beginning of the confession scene, and what happens afterwards it is left up to their imagination.
