The Church of Something

The Church Of Something is an area in Black Space. This area is the twenty-first area the player can enter in Black Space. This room is the last one and can be accessed anytime after collecting the key from Beach Area.

Snowy Hill

This area is a hill with a path that leads upwards.
At the middle of this path is a plate with steak. And, just before reaching the end, there's one of Mari's baskets, a key, and a long stairway leading to the Church Of Something.

Church Of Something

The Church Of Something resembles a mix of Sunny's home and Faraway's church. It's a narrow area that goes up with a straight path and benches on each side. Shadowy figures occupy the benches.
At the very end of the path is another stairway with Stranger and Basil. Now, depending on what Route the player is on, several things can happen.

True Route/Sunny Route

Upon walking up to a bound, greyscale basil at the top of the stairway, Stranger emerges from the shadows. After talking for a bit, he'll merge with Basil. Talking with Basil now will obfuscate him more and more, until he's fully gone.

Interacting with the black mass left will ask the player if they want to save Basil.
Choosing "yes" is the only option to progress. After the player agrees, Omori will walk into the black mass.

Omori finds himself with Basil in his own living room. Something in the backyard forces him out and Omori follows him out. The backyard now resembles Red Space.
Omori follows the only path and sits down on a pair of realistic red hands. Sunny wakes up.

Hikikomori Route

Omori finds a flowercrown before entering the church. Instead of finding a bound, greyscale Basil, he'll find the normal, Head Space Basil.

After freeing him and giving him his flowercrown, Stranger emerges from the shadows. He'll talk for a bit and then disappear. Then, the black mass that held Basil hostage, catches Omori and Basil.
Now, Sunny replaces Omori and Stranger is now in said mass. The mass is right before him and talks to him. Suddenly, it attacks Sunny.

After failing to use his skills to overcome tough situations, "Calm down", "Focus", "Persist", and "Overcome", Sunny will find himself in Red Space. After he walks up a staircase, he'll meet Omori.
The screen cuts to black and Omori is back to the scene with Stranger. Stranger will talk a little and a red hand will sneak up to Omori.

The screen turns white and we're back at the Church Of Something. It turns out that Omori passed out. There is now a bright, white light coming from the other end of the staircase.
Basil suggests to follow that light, saying that "He gets a really nice and warm feeling from it.". Red hands will now form a bridge, Omori and Basil go up this bridge and end up in Neighbor's Room, where all of their friends are asleep.
Going asleep now will wake Sunny up and reset Headspace, making Basil appear back there.

Stranger: "But this time, we can face it together."

Basil: "Sunny... Why did it end up like this?"
Basil: "Sunny..."
Basil: "I'm... I'm so sorry."
Basil: "Will you forgive me? My best friend..."

Hikikomori Route:
Basil: "Oh, thank goodness you're here, Omori. I thought I was gonna be stuck here forever."
Stranger: "Sunny... You've been running away from the truth for so long... How long will you keep running?"
Stranger: "I won't let this cycle repeat itself..."
Stranger: "I... I won't let you leave me, Sunny..."

Prior to the fight:
Stranger: "If you won't face the truth... then face me."
Stranger: "Face the suffering you've caused for the people you love..."
Stranger: "The pain of knowing what you've lost..."
Stranger: "And the hatred of yourself for being too cowardly to change anything about it..."

After the fight:
Stranger: "So you've chosen to live that way. I wonder... Can you really call that living?"
Stranger: "Leave me here. There's no hope left for me."

Back at the church:
BASIL: "Phew... Thank goodness you're awake."
BASIL: "Are you hurt at all? I was trying to pull you toward this white light at the top of the staircase..."
BASIL: "I get a really nice and warm feeling from it... Let's go up together!"

After arriving in Neighbor's Room:
Basil: "... We can rest now, OMORI... All our friends are here..."

Trivia

• This map used to be called "Temple"
• Additionally, it used to be placed after the Backyard Area, proceeding with all the maps that feature Basil's death and ending with Red Space.
